People & Character Artwork
This page is a short collection of some of my people & character artwork. Much of my inspiration has come from the general public ( character observations ) drawing from reference, or a mixture thereof.
For as long as I formerly lived in London, studied in Carlisle, and grew up in Cornwall. I have been inspired by the characters going about their day. People tell stories and set the scene!
This page is dedicated to my people & character artwork, and the services around this.
So… people & character artwork.
People & Character Artwork | Various Pieces
Below are some various character based drawings and artwork that I have compiled together.
These pieces of character art, are a mixture of study ideas or general portrayals. The artwork on this page is copyright to myself and their respective owners. If you are looking for concept and character artist you can do so on the page linked. Or you can read more on board game artwork here.
The Poet was a small digital painting which personifies a young creative writer. It was a character that came into my head that I felt needed to sketched down. Also at the stage I was doing a lot more female characters as many of my drawings and artwork were called ‘masculine’ looking. It was both and exercise and something that I found interesting to paint. Other characters have been added here too.
The man with the scar is just a face of a young fighter with a face scar. Could be historical or modern day.
I love character work and much of my inspiration comes from observing the general public when either being sat outdoor setting or when I am out and about. Or sat on a train with my sketch pad.
Drawings – The person on the left, Is somebody I know very well – reading a book. It is only a sketch. But something I wanted to share.
Cruel John Coppinger
Cruel John Coppinger was an infamous quasi-folk villain from Cornwall. He was said to be a brutal smuggler and that one day washed up on a Cornish shores.
He was Dane, with a violent and sinisiter reputation.
I hope the image conveys some of how much of an unpleaseant figure he truly was. If legend is to be believed. I imagined him to be tall, blond and fairly handsome and not adverse to fighting. But his uglines was hidden on the inside.
Pencils, graphite. More can be read on Cruel John Coppinger on this blog post – Cruel John Coppinger artwork ( external blog ). Or you may be interested in seeing more about my historical illustration services.
London Characters
As mentioned above, I attribute a lot of my character and figure work to commuting in out of London. Some of the artwork shown here has been inspired while traveling , walking around stations … or generally being crammed into large crowds. No picture is a exact observation, but a compilation inspired by occasions and moments when commuting. And London is brimming with characters.
Giclee prints of these are available on request.
